Your home from home is situated in the heart of Galloway, in Scotland's national book town, we're on the south side of this the County town, situated on the north east coast of the Machars region.
From here it is easy to discover the many country gardens, the numerous historic sites and visitor attractions, to visit the local distillery at Bladnoch, to enjoy Wigtown Bay, the UK's largest local nature reserve, and explore the RSPB nature reserve Crook of Baldoon, or the many book and gift shops in town. The nearby Galloway Forest Park is home to the UK's first Dark Sky Park and hosts many wonderful scenic places to see and wander in splendid natural beauty.
There are so many attractions to see and activities to do here, so many that we have a huge list of ideas on our Activities page so you can see for yourself just what you can do here!
Galloway is second only to the Highlands for the lowest population density in Scotland, so it's very peaceful and unhurried here. No wonder the nearby Galloway Forest Park has been awarded the status of Dark Sky Park, the first one nominated outside the U.S.A. The stars shine so bright here, you can see the milky way on a moonless night quite clearly.
Further proof of how wonderful this region is came with the award of the Galloway and Southern Ayrshire Biosphere, which is a another first for Scotland. Biospeheres host an amazing combination of landscape, wildlife and culture, with communities that care about and for their environment. A wonderful acknowledgement of our wonderful area.
It's really beautiful here in unspoilt Galloway, it truly is Scotland in miniature, with mountains, forests, lochs and stunning coastal scenery. So come on, lift your spirits high, smile and come over to find out for yourself. You'll love it here.
